WHERE WOULD I GO TO COURT?
Find the county below in which you live and the chart will show where a bankruptcy for you would be filed and where you would have to go to court. Because Chapter 13 cases and Chapter 7 cases are both part of the federal bankruptcy laws, your case would not be filed in your local court and you would not have to go to your local superior, state or magistrate court in your county of residence. You go to the federal court that handles federal law cases for your county of residence.
Most cases only require one court appearance. Usually you will not have to appear before a judge only the trustee that was assigned your case.
A section 341 meeting of creditors is usually the only actual hearing you will need to attend. Click the following link to see our video on 341 meetings.
